In January 2019, I bought two mail-order seedlings in little plugs of earth from Mossy Oak Nativ Nurseries, and planted them at the back of the yard. By early March they had both leafed out nicely - thin papery leaves with rough upper surface.
In August 2019 one of them was still looking OK, but the other one had lost most of its upper leaves. In October 2019 both Red Mulberries put on a tremendous growth spurt, with lots of fresh new leaves.
On May 10th 2020, the two Red Mulberries are growing well.
End of March 2021 one of the Red Mulberries put out a couple of male flowers.
By mid April, the second Red Mulberry looks like it is producing one or two tiny beginnings of fruit!
In spring 2022, one of the Red Mulberries produced its first fruit. The next three images show the berries ripening between early April and early May. The berries tasted faintly sweet - the first non-disgusting fruits from my yard!
