I planted this 4 gallon tree in December 2014, after purchasing it from the Houston Arboretum. It never leafed out in spring of 2015, so I got a replacement tree from the Arboretum and this has been growing well.
It has only had a bit of trouble from caterpillars eating the growing branch tips, and of course the june-bugs would destroy it if I didn't treat it with imidacloprid. Like the Cherrybark Oak, it initially didn't seem to want to grow straight upwards so I tried to straighten the central "leader" by tying it to a thin bamboo pole. In late November 2016, the leaves turned nicely red. |

The picture below is from mid December 2016.
On March 14th 2017, the Post Oak new growth burst forth.
On November 17th 2017, the leaves had gone from green to brown, without going through a red phase - however, the tree was fine next spring. It did the same thing in 2018 and 2019. Looks like the red-leaves phase was only for 2016.
I like the bark of this tree, the way it splits into blocky plates.
