Pawpaw #2, late June 2023 first picture, and mid-July 2022 second picture.
Pawpaw leaf detail.
I planted this small tree, which I purchased from Buchanan's Native Plants, in May 2018.
In July 2018, the Pawpaw lost most of its leaves and looked sickly. In 2019 it only put out a few small leaves - did not look like a promising future. In July 2019, I bought a second Pawpaw which looked very healthy in the nursery - very large, dark green leaves. I planted it in the seedling patch, further back towards the fence where it usually stays wetter for longer. This will be my last attempt with a Pawpaw.
By mid-August 2019, most of the leaves of this new Pawpaw had already turned partially brown and fallen off, and a few smaller newer ones grew back in September.
The first Pawpaw put out one surprise flower in late March 2021. It started off as green and a couple of days later had turned deep purple.
