The Mountain Silverbell tree is missing from a lot of guidebooks, which I find surprising as it can grow to a magnificent tree in the Great Smoky Mountains. There seems to be confusion whether this huge tree should be a sub-species of Carolina Silverbell, which is strange as the latter is only a shrub, or at best a very small tree. The Mountain Silverbell has unique flaky bark that looks like it has been singed in a fire, and abundant white flowers in the spring. My forest is limited to two medium-small sized specimens, both in the southern end of Lot A. There is one other small tree, and multiple saplings. The first medium-small one I found is in the SE corner of Lot A. Unfortunately it has a broken top.
The second medium-small specimen is more towards the middle of the southern section of Lot A, hidden inside a rhododendron thicket. This one seems to have a somewhat smaller trunk (circumference at chest-height only 2ft 9.25"), but is taller and healthier looking.
I later came across a smaller tree-sized specimen, further towards the west in southern Lot A.
