In 2022 and 2023 the Fringe Tree hardly had any leaves, so I did not take a picture. The first picture shows the Fringe Tree in early July 2021, after bouncing feebly back from a 2020 flood when it lost all its leaves. The second picture shows the healthy Fringe Tree in early July 2020.
Leaf detail from May 2020
I planted this tree, which I found for sale in Buchanan's Native Plants in Houston, in the back of the yard in June 2019. The leaves were large, leathery, and glossy dark green - unfortunately they were immediately whipped into a frenzy by the wind and many stems were broken. The following picture is from a few days after planting - end of June 2019.
In early April 2020, the Fringe tree has erupted into vigorous growth.
On May 10th 2020, the leaves are thickening and darkening nicely.
Towards the end of July there was a lot of rain. By the beginning of August the once dark green leaves were starting to lose their color, fading to a yellowish-green. Then suddenly on August 5th, almost every leaf went brown. This species of tree is not flood tolerant and I guess the ground was too wet for it after all that rain. Another perfectly healthy, flourishing tree suddenly executed by the environment.
