In my forest there are only two Cucumber Magnolia trees of a decent size. They grow right next to each other in the SE corner of Lot B, on a steep east-facing slope, just outside the boundary of the large rhododendron thicket. Their circumferences at chest-height are 4ft 5" and 4ft 0". A few saplings are also scattered around the general area. This tree is distinctive from the ubiquitous Fraser Magnolia by its blocky bark and large leaves without "ears" at the base.
In the acidic cove bowl of Lot A, there is a sapling / small Cucumber Magnolia which painted the understory a pastel yellow in the autumn.
